Il Palazzo Reale di Napoli fu costruito nel ‘600 su progetto dell’architetto Domenico Fontana, ed ha rappresentato la sede del potere monarchico in Italia meridionale per più di trecento anni. Dal 1919 è destinato in gran parte a Biblioteca Nazionale, mentre l’ala più antica, ricca di testimonianze storico artistiche dal Seicento all’Ottocento, si conserva come museo.
Le sale riccamente decorate ed arredate risentono di mode e stili differenti ma soprattutto dei gusti delle diverse dinastie che vi hanno abitato. Mobili, arazzi, suppellettili, dipinti e porcellane, il Teatrino di Corte e la Cappella Palatina testimoniano i fasti della Napoli capitale.
The Royal Palace was built at the beginning of the 17Th century by the architect Domenico Fontana and represented the seat of the monarchial power in southern Italy for more than three hundred years. The magnificent building is home to the Museum of Palazzo Reale, a rich and wide collection of baroque and neoclassic furnishing, porcelain, tapestries, statues and paintings.
The Palace also houses the National Library which includes 2000 papyri discovered at Herculaneum, the Teatrino di Corte, a lavish private theater and the Royal Chapel with an fascinating 18th century presepe.
